Practabase: Simple EHR for therapists
Overview
Practabase was a lightweight EHR app targeted towards non prescribing clinicians - behavioural, speech & occupational therapists, etc.

Context
Practabase started when my co-founder, a physician, shared his frustrations with the cluttered EHR systems he had to work with daily. So we wanted to build an alternative bringing my UX & product background with his clinical experience - an EHR that actually gets out of the way rather than come in the way.
We shaped the product by from opinions we held from personal experience and direct feedback from our early user base.
I led the design direction - worked with a remote team of contract engineers to ship fast.
We wanted to build something that doesn't need "training sessions" to work.
Problem
Conventional EHR software was archaic, slow, and cluttered. We set out to design a tool that stands out of the user's way, rather than blocking it.
Accessible Design - this was a critical aspect we wanted address. My cofounder, from his experience as a doctor felt that most EHR wasn't usable by older paramedical staff. They required paid trainings, seminars etc to master. We wanted to eliminate this need by creating a software that just works.
Most importantly - we wanted the visual design to be clean, with light colours and minimal UI elements. We avoided distracting UI elements, and made sure they don't feel cluttered.

Key Learnings
Practabase is currently decommissioned as we've decided to shut down in Nov 2024. While the early traction showed promise, we couldn't crack the marketing.
As we were bootstrapped, it became no longer sustainable for us to maintain after a year. We didn't want to pursue fundraising as we were burnt out.
This was the biggest learning experience of my life, and has given me clarity on my strengths (design) and weaknesses (business). Onwards!
